believe me or not, i'm always thinking how i can be more considerate to the people around me starting from the things i do in my average Singaporean life. i feel the compelling need to be more considerate as i grow older - it's like when you are young you feel the whole world is about you and have this "as long as i happy can liao" kind of attitude.
apart from the usual stuffs like not cutting queue, letting people alight from the train first, not hogging escalator 'lanes', holding the door etc..(which i am already a proud practicioner) here's is a list of what i do (or at least consciously TRY to do):
1) clearing up the table after a meal at a hawker centre or fast food restaurant -- this is very much influenced by the dad. he always clear our plates for the next person waiting to sit at our table - i think it's a very nice gesture which i have taken on. his take on this is simple: "you dont find it disgusting if you clear your own plates, but if other people have to touch your plates then very digusting right?" .. i love the dad :)
but i find it difficult to keep to it all the time especially when i'm eating with my friends because i always get weird stares from my them and asking "huh you clear the table for wat?" (-_-)" .. or "huh must ownself clear table one meh?" (-_-)"
2) be more generous with saying "Hello", "Thankyou" and "Please"
3) not talk or laugh too loudly in public places, especially indoor places like restaurants or cafes. -- dude, i am WORKING on this. haha, i have to admit i still have lots of room for improvement. but it doesn't help when i am surrounded by equally loud friends :p
4) chit chat with taxi drivers - ok you might find this strange. but seriously, these guys are LONELY. it's like whole day in the taxi - if passengers don't talk to them then they have no one to talk to. so sian! i ALWAYS chit chat with taxi drivers, unless i am super konked out and wants to sleep in the car. i love to talk to them - most of the time it's very interesting cos taxi drivers quite 'ba gua'. even though sometimes the topic is boring, i'm still happy to keep them 'entertained' for a while so that they don't feel so bored mah! hahaha.
