my mover's party!

woohoo...last week was my movers' party (in case you guys didn't know, i have moved department) it was a night filled with fun and laughter indeed. i realised that the entire GCUS department was actually quite big! there was never a photo where we can fit everyone together.this is The Boss whom i will miss badly, i really like her managing style, cos most of the time it seemed like i was managing her. ahaha...she's too nice and i'm too evil, that's why.our batch of movers, so happy to move with tina, mel and mr kotawala!and to everyone's surprise, the presents we got as a mover was a free ride at the reverse bungy at Clarke Quay! i was very happy cos i've been thinking of trying it for a long time! but i cannot say the same for the rest as they battle with their fear in heights! haha. but for someone who has done a real bungy before - this is like see-saw. :Pi'm sure you see some nervous faces! look at Kongg (in the middle) ahahaand of course the smart ass PQ is here to create havoc again! i got the movers to secretly buy 2 more tickets for our managers! (middle and right in picture). HAHAHA and they totally freaked out when they saw us waving the tickets at them~ in disbelief. but really kudos to them for being such a good sport and went up there anyways even though their treshhold of heights are limited to like standing on a balcony of a 2 storey house. hee!we even got certificates from The Bosses after the daring stunt!after the crazy reverse bungy the remaining ones went to chillout and a bar nearby as the weather was simply tooo warm!one of my best friend in GCUS! we call each other CAPTAIN!! haha...The two Bosses together. lovely people.i wonder what were we talking about? looks like a serious discussion over here. heh.some of my team members in Hsupremes.whether it is for the better or worse, i'm glad i have moved on anyways.

why we so kiasu!

i was watching a variety show on channel U tonight. it was about getting high school kids to come and compete in a chinese language proficiency game. the whole aim of this is to promote the chinese language and to get kids these days to like chinese... but guess what? like 90% of those participants are PRC students!!

this is really ridiculous!!!!!! defeats the whole damn purpose. and of course the whole reason why schools send their top PRC students to come and compete in this show is because of one word - KIASU!!!

all wanna win only. nabeh. couldn't stand that show and i ordered my mum to change channel immediately! damn those ah tiongs.

you know you've been spending too much time in office when...

you desperately look for your access card (instead of house keys) when you take the elevator home...

you wait for the water to come out of the tap automatically when you're in front of the wash basin...

you open the fridge at home and wonder where has the all the coke zero gone to??...

you find that one monitor is never enough when you switch on the computer at home.. (i look at 4 screens at work)

GIVE ME BACK MY LIFE!!

it was such a roller coaster ride coming to sis' wedding. to think i almost missed it because of work?? i'm such an ass. i had to miss the hen's night (better known as bachelorette night) as a result and i paid bloody 50 pounds for it! :( well i'm glad the mum went for it anyways.after the dinner cruise they went to watch the famous Simon Cabaret show.anyways i was lucky enough to come to Phuket in the end after so much hoo-ha and help from my managers. i boarded the plane alone on thursday morning, totally knocked out throughout the entire journey - didn't even realise it had landed in Phuket!i was taken away by the awesome view within Dusit Laguna - it's a very nice place to stay in! and it totally took my mind away from the hustle and bustle of city life.and i'm sure i made it clear that i was here for a wedding. no?!last family dinner before the wedding day...then came the most awaited moment of the trip, the chapel procession! the bro-in-law was sweating non stop whilst waiting for the bride to arrive, heh. very hamsen lah brother!the five most important man (and boys): P - the groom, G - the best man, C - dad of the groom, L and R - the ring bearers.finally the bride has arrived with the dad! the sis was really pretty that day. no one would disagree. i'm sure dad is very proud of her. :)here comes Lewis the ring bearer. he did a great job that day considering that he boycotted the chapel rehearsal the day before cos he was too busy with his Nintendo.Lewis and Reece - my bro-in-law's nephews. so cute lah!they even had their names engraved outside the chapel to prove that they were wedded here. imagine bringing your kids/grandkids to Phuket next time to show them this. awesome.after the chapel procession the guests were ferried back to the beach by boats for a sunset cocktail party before dinner startsit was a lovely evening with a romantic sunset, sand, waves...and more importantly - free flow of pina cola and long island tea!
they even brought a baby elephant to accompany the guests!~ haha.one of the highlights of the dinner was the lighting of sky lanterns. we all wished for a blessed marriage for the couple - but i'm sure my dad secretly wished to strike 4D on the coming sunday!
check out this cute little girl! she made a mess with the chocolate fondue served during dessert time. adorable or what!Sam, such a great guy. He also practices Taekwondo. haha nope we were not wrestling each other, but we were at the last dance of the night. :)and did i say free flow of champagne as well? damn nice, my favourite Moet.ahhh...time to go back again. but i felt like i could stay there forever...and not come back to the corporate world! back to reality now.... yawnz.

the day i felt bad for the whole day

the earlier part of today was TOTALLY SHITTY!!!! was supposed to play badminton at 11am in TP with friends from work. but it turned out that the entire sports hall was shut down for renovations! damn TP sports office assholes..they should have informed!! i felt super duper duper guilty cos my friends at work and The Boss mostly stay at the West and it was a wasted trip for them! felt really bad the whole day for the mess up. totally lost face.

so i sort of made up to my friends by sending them back home on a cab..and treated them to a movie. now i will have to think of how to make up to the friend who drove and had to U-turn and also The Boss who was on the train to Tampines for nothing. sigh!

second part of the day was nice though. chilling at an Indian friend's house. he's also from work. nice place he has, he cooked for us and we had a bottle of wine. chatted alot, from taiwan-china straits politics to the chemical molecules in Coke Zero?! he studied chemical engineering so would you please excuse him? hah. oh well i'm so sleepy now...should i go to sleep or should i read a book?

hmm..okie i think the answer is pretty obvious. sigh. zZzzzZ...

do-not-disturb-cos-limpei-wanna-sleep-liao

i am always talking to ah siao like as if he understands me. we often engage in very serious discussions concerning family to career matters... but of course the communication is usually one way...with him occassionally letting out a "meowww...grrr do-not-disturb-cos-limpei-wanna-sleep-liao" kind of groan. anyways here's what he looks like now...and i don't understand why my friends think he is obese?!
anyways been thinking alot for these couple of days. from life to career planning. in some ways i am an achiever - i make things happen. and sometimes, i simply wait for things to happen.

more often than not i know what is supposed to be done, what kinds of behavious to exhibit...but successfully executing it is another thing altogether. i need to have a happier life, do happy things, have happy thoughts, hang out with happy people. so many things to think about! perhaps i need more than a male tom cat to share my thoughts... if you know what i mean.

oh well, for now at least i know... do-not-disturb-cos-limpei-wanna-sleep-liao...

night night~

quitting while you are ahead is not the same as quitting

hmm... another two of my colleagues left the firm today.... i have lost count of the number of people who have left since i joined.

i wouldn't say i was "affected" by their resignation per sae (since we were not thaaat close). but i cannot stop thinking about their premature departure. when i saw HR shook hands and said "all the best" to the second guy at the door..... i thought to myself: did HR meant what she said or was it just a nicer way of saying Goodbye to a disloyal piece of shit? anyways HR is pretty much immuned to these exit cases by now. i was actually quite happy for the guy who left, he is a talented young man who must have found a better job somewhere else and was brave enough to leave behind what he has built (achievements, credibility, relationships) to start from scratch again.

then you start thinking...so why do some people choose to leave... and you ask yourself why are you still here? of course you turn your head around and you see the people who are with the organisation for the longest time.. you then ask again; what made them stick it out for so long? well everyone has different needs and expecations and obviously their own personal agenda...

although it is is cliche when you say "all good things must come to an end"... it still struck me hard that, the people you have at work changes from time to time. more often than not, it changes faster than you had expected. but the nature of your job remains the same most of the time... and more often than not, doesn't change as much as you wish it could have! so should your career move be dependent on the kind of people you work with or the kind of work you have to do?

of course in between you have this catalyst called MONEY thrown in to make this whole equation work. but what if money is not a source of motivation in itself or worse, if the amount of money in this case is not even worth mentioning... money can only propel you to X amount of distance. where then can you find your self worth? how does this whole balance scale work for you now?

so what value are you adding to this organisation, in return; what value are you creating for yourself? if not personal development and career progression, then is it generating wealth and what if the answer is none of the above? if you realise...it brings us back to the original question of: why are you still here?

short sighted gains vs. long term interests. choose one.

yes a choice has to be made. i am so good at making rational decisions for just about everything and everyone... except when the decision involves me. i am one of the worse decision makers in this sense.

but at least for now, i have decided. i shall go to sleep, wake up and go back to my job.

trying to be ATAS

so what have i been up to?

well, my biggest purchase last weekend was a Fitness First membership! yup it cost me 150 bucks to join each month... i hope it is all worthwhile. so far i've been to the gym twice and joined 3 of their classes. haha i was at this body combat class (mix of taekwondo, karate, boxing etc)... i kept "armm chio-ing" when the instructor did his "kicks" and "moves"... but i still respect his energy and drive when instructing... even when the class is not "high" they will "zi high" which is very important. :)

and of course...i bought a new pair of REALLY cool Asics track shoe just so i wear it to the gym. must act ATAS wat. hee hee, so that's another 150 bucks gone...

oooh...and i got a cool pair of Adidas shades that cost 288 bucks! hmm but i didn't have to pay a single cent cos a friend of mine from work bought it for me and claimed under company account. muahaha...so happy! i used up my quota for the year already all thanks to my stupid root canal. (i get 700 bucks per year as dental and eye-care allowance). all thanks to him i get a pair of new shades..woo hoo... not that bad afterall! :)

valentine's day

so what's the difference between celebrating valentine's day when you are 25 yrs old and when you are 55? hmm...

today The Boss (25 yrs old) received a bouquet of 99 white roses from The Boyfriend. apparently last year her bouquet consisted of 199 white roses but she complained that it was too heavy to carry around... which is why this year The Boyfriend gave her 99 roses "ONLY".

tonight The Mum (55 yrs old) was complaining to The Dad about not being romantic enough to give her flowers for valentines day...

mum: 今天是情人节你连一束花都没有!
dad: 谁说的?... 我每个月都送你花 hor!

mum: 哪里有?!
dad: 那里没有?!

dad: 每个月我都准时送钱给你花!那个不是花 meh??!
mum: =_="

yes, dysfunctional parents breeds dysfunctional kids; ie: ME! and my stupid sis.
