bali = land of trash and mosquitoes

you can take the Singaporean out of Singapore, but not Singapore out of the Singaporean...

people say that Bintan...is just another extension of Singapore - and this is exactly why we (the mum, the dad and me) like Bintan more than Bali. hahaha.... oh well, to be fair, i guess it is just the wrong season to be in Bali. the strong winds are blowing all the trash from neighbouring islands (haha maybe from Singapore) into Bali and hence this sorry sight of Bali beach.even a sea turtle was washed up the beach. it was dead by the time i discovered it. so sad right. maybe it got suffocated by a plastic bag or choked on a straw or something.anyways the aim of this trip was to let parents from both sides meet, and sorta "discuss" about sis' and the BF's marriage next April.since the beach was not fantastic at all, we found other stuffs to do. young ones bake in the sun, allowing lethal UV rays come through their skin, expediting the ageing process...while the old folks stay in room for facial and massage in an attempt to regain their youth... yeah it is a paradoxical world we're living here.we took a day trip round the island, stopping at a few tourist attractions before heading to Kintamani.sis and the BFpaddy fields behind us.yup finally at Kintamani, the last time it erupted was 1994 (source of information: our driver cum guide) quite shiok man, sitting by the side of the cliff having lunch with the volcano just right in front of you. roadside fruit stalls, reminded me of cameron highlands. mum went crazy over the passion fruits she saw. we bought so much of that at Singapore price! i think the owner was laughing all the way to the bank.we went to this agricultural farm thingy and i was like trying to grind the coffee beans into powder. heh. the nenek sitting there was so cool. she was eating betel nuts and her lips were all RED. she said: "natural lipstick...cantik!"my best friend throughout the entire trip: Tiger Balm mosquito repellant.we were at the temple and witnessed a major celebration which only takes place every 6 months. so lucky! and according to Balinese calender, one month has 35 days, which means this ceremony is only once every 210 days!
i'll prolly give Bali another shot next time, go in the right season ie: april/june/july/august. this time with my mates and we can try to surf and white water raft and stuffs?
me and mum in similar t-shirt! so sweet hor? haha. you know they say if you wanna know how you will look like when you grow old, just look at the mum. not bad lah if i can look like that when i'm 55 yrs old!alright..better luck with Bali next time! Happy New Year 2008!

this is an entry about how i don't understand Facebook

some guy had to THROW A SHEEP at me, then drive past in his STREETRACE car just to WRITE ON MY WALL. when i did not respond to his ARE U COLOR BLIND? test, he POKED ME then sent VAMPIRES to BITE MY CHUMPS. finally i've decided i have to retaliate so i sent my SLAYERS and some PIRATES for my personal protection.

all of a sudden he invited me to take an IQ TEST followed by a BLIND DATE. it was not until now that he realised i am the MOST ELIGIBLE SINGLE in this world and asked if i WANNA DANCE? i told him we were only FLUFF FRIENDS and we did not score very high in terms of LIKENESS. he wouldn't go away so i gave him a BUTT KICKING experience. finally he buggered off so i lighted FIRECRACKERS to celebrate the end of this bizzare and unwelcomed ENTOURAGE.

sigh....i don't like Facebook. can all of you come back to Friendster please?!?!?!

btw i found a way to access blogger from BB! which means i can blog more often while at work! yay!!

2007 christmas day

i think i just brought the term "sleeping on the job" to a whole new level.yes...this is me, "working" on CHRISTMAS day. if you look carefully...the person behind me is The Boss. woahahahaha. and she is doing the work FOR ME! win liao. haha.

ta...dah! presenting to you...THE BOSS! we are of the same age lor! man, she successful lah. sometimes makes me think if i have lost out to others because of those few years where i was slacking and doing nothing. hai!

2007 christmas eve

cover charge at MOS - $20
alcohol for the night - $150
midnight charge for cab - $25
pals sitting on a rooftop sharing the same sun set - PRICELESSyup, it was a nice, quiet night, spent chilling, eating, drinking, gossiping and listening to Gigi Leung's music playing non stop from the IPOD on the rooftop... :)

ahahaa was so upset when that i realised they didn't buy food for BBQ that night cos our smartass LL went to check weather forecast for that night. apparently there was a 60% likelihood of raining BUT it didn't lorrr! but nehmind, i bought food to BBQ in the end. so i was happy :P
LL makes one of the best salad. :) we had sushi, salad, BBQ stuffs, garlic bread...
LL and me! best bud. ahaha yes, i have put on weight! as Ivan will put it - FATS IS GOOD.
best present of the night was from RY, she gave each of us an eye pillow stuffed with lavendar...i like man...surely can sleep well now. although actually most of time i am so tired that i can even sleep while standing.next stop... BB OFFICE AT CAPITAL SQUARE...yes!!! i had to work the next day!!!! on CHRISTMAS DAY! it's amazing i could stay through the night and still go to work later. ahaha, so proud of myself lor.

bali bali here i come

woahaha shit i haven't bought the 3 presents for the christmas gift exchange yet! damn. but i already thought of what to buy lah...hmm...well sort of. anyways, going to LL's place for house party on christmas eve...after my FULL DAY of work. sigh actually i cannot believe BB doesn't practice half days on christmas eve! whaddahell. after the party...which most likely will last over the night, i am just in time for ANOTHER FULL DAY of work on christmas day!! nabehz.

ok the consoling thing is...i am going to Bali on 27th! lalalala... but don't know will be fun or not leh. it's like...me, dad, mum, sis, sis BF, sis BF's ang moh dad and ang moh mum. hmm...

somemore dunno will kena bali bombings or not. it's a real concern man. i mean i will be with 3 ang mohs...and most likely dining at all the ATAS ang mohs places... i guess i am better off hanging out at the local bars, and hook up with an Indo guy who can drive me around in his 25cc scooter.

should i go for my advanced diving course this time in Bali? i bloody should right?!?! ahahaha..more updates next time :P

earn your reputation

i collected my medical report on Saturday morning and the doctor said that my bad cholesterol level was 130! just one more point and i will exceed the limit. i am only 25 yrs old this year, thankss arr...

so i decided to do something healthy in an attempt to bring my cholesterol back to a healthy level. i went back to NTU in the afternoon to help conduct a training session for the NTU TKD camp. woah seh been ion years since i exercised. tried some kicks...buay pai leh...still got the pattern there. ahahaha...but then no stamina.

anyways was quite touched when i see that i still gain quite a bit of respect from the juniors. i guess it is really important to build and upkeep your reputation because it goes a long long way. respect is earned and not something you can demand. :) hopefully i can earn respect from others at work like how i earned the respect of many in TKD. :):)

limpei suay

today...

i woke up late for work, had to dash like a madwoman so that i arrive on time.

banged right into the glass door cos i was still very much asleep when i got to the office

breakfast provided in the office was the MUFFINS which i HATE

i heard something bad about me today

i spilled beef noodle sauce all over my pants exactly at the crouch area

i stepped right into a pool of MUDDY water in my WHITE brandnew Converse canvas shoes

what else can i say except....LIMPEI SUAY!

meet my new colleague

i have a new colleague at work and she is not well received by people in my department for various reasons. she likes to whine and she speaks at the top of her voice. she also has a habit of taking off her shoes at work and according to my other colleagues, they said they could smell an odor. well i shall not say whether it is smelly or not but let's just say it's an acquired taste.

other people's comments about her include:

"she sounds like a KPO aunty with blocked nose"

"honestly, she has to calm down, i'm really tempted to knock her out with a bottle of ketchup"

"i saw dried up pi sai at the side of her nose that day"

"i saw a wet pi sai at the side of her nose that day"

"i can smell her smelly feet from 10 foot away"

now we are playing this secret santa game within our department, whereby we are supposed to get a gift for a chosen person and he/she will have to guess who bought the gift for him/her. suggestions for her present include:

1) peppermint foot spray from bodyshop

2) complete set of foot scrub and foot lotion

3) horse tranquilizers

sigh, she so poor thing rite?

my very sad medical checkup

nurse: ok your BMI is 23.3 overweight.
me: orh.
nurse: and your body fat level is 29%.
me: orh.

doc: about your family medical history...
me: sure.
doc: father, mother still alive?
me: they were still alive last night, but i haven't really seen them around this morning.

doc: got brother, sister?
me: sister
doc: sister still alive?
me: sadly, yes.

doc: you sexually active?
me: as much as i want to be...no i'm not.

*doc used his stethoscope to listen*

doc: you have heart murmur?
me: not that i know of.
doc: ok, because now you have heart murmur.
me: what is that?
doc: if you want you can do a eco (something something) test, it costs you $396, cos this one not included in this package.

me: hmm...ok, but what causes heart murmur? can i do anything to improve it?
doc: if you want you can do a eco (something something) test, it costs you $396, cos not this one not included in this package.

honestly, i felt like boxing the doctor's face. SUPER unprofessional services. sigh.

i think i love to talk so much that even now my heart murmurs??

Sand's surprise birthday party

Thursday was Sand's birthday and i decided to be wicked this year by playing a trick on her. we were supposed to take her out for dinner on wednesday but all of us flew her a huge kite at the very last minute haha...i sent her an SMS "hey sorry can't meet tonight cos my cat is alone at home." of course it made her hit the roof! lolapparently she was so disappointed that all of us having been friends for so many years, neglected her birthday celebration. of course, as it turned out, we had a huge surprise party in place for her! we were already at Sun Moon Japanese restaurant waiting for her to come! Den was so sweet to have at all planned out. everyone worked together to keep Sand in the dark. )

good food, good presents, good ambience and most importantly, wonderful company :)
happy birthday girl! toast to our friendship!

my parent's 30th wedding anniversary

today is the 30th year my mum and dad got married! we decided that we should all go out and have a celebration for dad; kudos to him for being able to stand my crazy mum for three full decades! we went to PUMP room at Clarke Quay (how cool is that? PUMP room with mum and dad? heh) for dinner. had a couple of beers there too.

random conversation #23:

sis's BF: congratulations to your 30 years of happy marriage!
dad: 30 years of marriage true, but happy...only one year.
sis: you wanna know why? cos i came along after the first year.

haven't i said enough about the dysfunctional members of my family?

i suck as a telephone operator

ring ring...

me: BB, this is Peiqi, how may i help you?
client: hi, can i speak to anyone from your IT department?
me: hmm, sir, do you have a specific name that you're looking for?
client: anyone.

me: sure sir, perhaps you would like to tell me what is this call regarding?
client: yeah it's regarding the IT infrastructure re-engineering of your company
me: hmm, do you mean you wish to have a business proposal with us regarding IT related products and services?
client: well you can say so
me: then in that case you can send us an email at xxxxx@bb.com

client: why? why don't you just put me to anyone?
me: sir, because without a name it is very difficult for me to put you through to IT dept.

client: i said anyone!
me: which one?
client: ANYONE!
me: which one?!
client: look, i said anyone!!
me: but which one which one?!

loud sighs came from both sides of the phone line..................

client: E.X.A.C.T.L.Y what i am saying girl
me: .......

i really suck at being a telephone operator.

and in case you start FON-ing, we do not have Annie Wan in our company. he called the wrong number, he was supposed to call IBM...thanks ar.

kahhhhhh PUI!....welcome to China

Q: how do you know you have not been blogging for a really long time?
A: when you forgot your blogspot login password

i know it must have been over a thousand years since my previous entry. i promise to do better than this. ok, the revival of my blog shall start with my long overdue Beijing trip!

yeah...i went BJ and guess who i stayed with again? haha, EC lor. she is now permanently located there on an expat package with EY Beijing. drawing a 5 figure Singapore dollars salary...go to China x 5 = Renminbi...but cost of living is ÷ed by 5. this equation translates to a big spacious 3 bedroom apartment in a high class residential area + a maid to clean her house + dine in expensive restaurants everyday. well of course everything comes with a price: imagine opening up MS Word documents which are full of funny Chinese characters that you cannot read + a whole waiting list of free loader friends from Singapore taking turns to visit. heh.

the weather in BJ was very good, it was about 16 degrees in the day when i arrived. everything was perfect until i cannot stop noticing how all the China men (and women mind you!) spits on the floor non stop! it was Kahh Pui here and Kahhhhh Pui there! SIBEH DISGUSTING.

anyways, first stop we visited Tian Tan Gong, which btw i had no idea what the entire place was about. i was supposed to read up on it before i go but....dinner was at this ATAS place called Hutong, it is like the BJ's equivalent of dining by Clarke Quay. think China Lake with swan boats in place of Singapore River and junk boats.it was food, food, and more food in BJ.as you may have already noticed, China does not really have the concept of having Small, Medium, Large when it comes to the size of their dishes. it is always a one size fits all, and usually it just means Large. in case you were wondering, where is that Peking duck?! it was "stuffing face with Peking duck" activity every alternate day. it was almost like a ritual.few days have passed and the weather turned colder and colder, before i knew it, it was about 4 degrees at night. and i bet you my toes, i was the only person in entire BJ wearing bermudas in this weather. everywhere i went i was being stared at in disbelief.

that aside, i was really happy to meet up with XX and Kinbo! so much have been said about visiting them in BJ and i am just so glad it finally happened.we took a drive to The Great Wall and sat on the chairlift up to climb the wall. it was awesome, the leaves were about to turn red as autumn is here. and that was then i found out that all 3 of them were acrophobic yet they took the chairlift cos i wanted to. 真的是舍命陪君子.we took the speedway down, it was exactly like the Luge i played during my NZ trip in 2006. really strange eh? i bet Emperor Qin would never have guessed that a few thousand years after his death people are building all kinds of nonsense on his sacred construction. a speedway and Starbucks coffeeshop?! i wonder if he'll jump out of his grave and say Hi to commercialization.good food, excellent company.meet Ted, my new found friend.next up was Forbidden City.it was forbiddened indeed, cos it was FULL of people. literally "people mountain people sea". the best i could manage was to take a picture at its front door. heh.good times zoom past and before i knew it, it was time to go home. one last chance to kapok a few packets of Wang Lao Ji (China's equivalent of Jia Jia Liang Teh) before i leave for the airport.with this, i kissed BJ goodbye...and just right before i left, i used up all my strength..and KAAAAAAHHHH PUI-ed!!! on the floor outside the airport. ha ha ha...

rooftop BBQ @ The Lighthouse

now that i've started working, i really cherish my weekends. time to catch up with old friends, or to simply sleep my day away. on this particular day, i did both. i spent half the day sleeping and tanning by the pool and by night time, it was a wonderful seafood fiesta with sec sch mates.yellow - the chef who perspires non stop. haha. he served us the first dish of the day, which happened to be the most awesome dish for the entire night!BEAUTIFUL BBQ SQUIDS!!! muacks!

夕阳无限好, 只是近黄昏.
we've always guessed that CF was going to get married first. haha. now she's a proud mother of one. sometimes it's just unbelievable you know? i could still remember her in a school uniform!the food that night was lovely, the company was even better. only downside of it; seafood + alcohol = cholesterol overload. i bet our food selection would be very different when we have another gathering in our mid 30s. probably we'll go for organic vegetarian or something. haha. hmm..who am i trying to kid here? lol.cheers to a wonderful evening and our long lasting friendship!
