it was such a roller coaster ride coming to sis' wedding. to think i almost missed it because of work?? i'm such an ass. i had to miss the hen's night (better known as bachelorette night) as a result and i paid bloody 50 pounds for it! :( well i'm glad the mum went for it anyways.after the dinner cruise they went to watch the famous Simon Cabaret show.anyways i was lucky enough to come to Phuket in the end after so much hoo-ha and help from my managers. i boarded the plane alone on thursday morning, totally knocked out throughout the entire journey - didn't even realise it had landed in Phuket!i was taken away by the awesome view within Dusit Laguna - it's a very nice place to stay in! and it totally took my mind away from the hustle and bustle of city life.and i'm sure i made it clear that i was here for a wedding. no?!last family dinner before the wedding day...then came the most awaited moment of the trip, the chapel procession! the bro-in-law was sweating non stop whilst waiting for the bride to arrive, heh. very hamsen lah brother!the five most important man (and boys): P - the groom, G - the best man, C - dad of the groom, L and R - the ring bearers.finally the bride has arrived with the dad! the sis was really pretty that day. no one would disagree. i'm sure dad is very proud of her. :)here comes Lewis the ring bearer. he did a great job that day considering that he boycotted the chapel rehearsal the day before cos he was too busy with his Nintendo.Lewis and Reece - my bro-in-law's nephews. so cute lah!they even had their names engraved outside the chapel to prove that they were wedded here. imagine bringing your kids/grandkids to Phuket next time to show them this. awesome.after the chapel procession the guests were ferried back to the beach by boats for a sunset cocktail party before dinner startsit was a lovely evening with a romantic sunset, sand, waves...and more importantly - free flow of pina cola and long island tea!
they even brought a baby elephant to accompany the guests!~ haha.one of the highlights of the dinner was the lighting of sky lanterns. we all wished for a blessed marriage for the couple - but i'm sure my dad secretly wished to strike 4D on the coming sunday!
check out this cute little girl! she made a mess with the chocolate fondue served during dessert time. adorable or what!Sam, such a great guy. He also practices Taekwondo. haha nope we were not wrestling each other, but we were at the last dance of the night. :)and did i say free flow of champagne as well? damn nice, my favourite Moet.ahhh...time to go back again. but i felt like i could stay there forever...and not come back to the corporate world! back to reality now.... yawnz.

the day i felt bad for the whole day

the earlier part of today was TOTALLY SHITTY!!!! was supposed to play badminton at 11am in TP with friends from work. but it turned out that the entire sports hall was shut down for renovations! damn TP sports office assholes..they should have informed!! i felt super duper duper guilty cos my friends at work and The Boss mostly stay at the West and it was a wasted trip for them! felt really bad the whole day for the mess up. totally lost face.

so i sort of made up to my friends by sending them back home on a cab..and treated them to a movie. now i will have to think of how to make up to the friend who drove and had to U-turn and also The Boss who was on the train to Tampines for nothing. sigh!

second part of the day was nice though. chilling at an Indian friend's house. he's also from work. nice place he has, he cooked for us and we had a bottle of wine. chatted alot, from taiwan-china straits politics to the chemical molecules in Coke Zero?! he studied chemical engineering so would you please excuse him? hah. oh well i'm so sleepy now...should i go to sleep or should i read a book?

hmm..okie i think the answer is pretty obvious. sigh. zZzzzZ...

do-not-disturb-cos-limpei-wanna-sleep-liao

i am always talking to ah siao like as if he understands me. we often engage in very serious discussions concerning family to career matters... but of course the communication is usually one way...with him occassionally letting out a "meowww...grrr do-not-disturb-cos-limpei-wanna-sleep-liao" kind of groan. anyways here's what he looks like now...and i don't understand why my friends think he is obese?!
anyways been thinking alot for these couple of days. from life to career planning. in some ways i am an achiever - i make things happen. and sometimes, i simply wait for things to happen.

more often than not i know what is supposed to be done, what kinds of behavious to exhibit...but successfully executing it is another thing altogether. i need to have a happier life, do happy things, have happy thoughts, hang out with happy people. so many things to think about! perhaps i need more than a male tom cat to share my thoughts... if you know what i mean.

oh well, for now at least i know... do-not-disturb-cos-limpei-wanna-sleep-liao...

night night~

quitting while you are ahead is not the same as quitting

hmm... another two of my colleagues left the firm today.... i have lost count of the number of people who have left since i joined.

i wouldn't say i was "affected" by their resignation per sae (since we were not thaaat close). but i cannot stop thinking about their premature departure. when i saw HR shook hands and said "all the best" to the second guy at the door..... i thought to myself: did HR meant what she said or was it just a nicer way of saying Goodbye to a disloyal piece of shit? anyways HR is pretty much immuned to these exit cases by now. i was actually quite happy for the guy who left, he is a talented young man who must have found a better job somewhere else and was brave enough to leave behind what he has built (achievements, credibility, relationships) to start from scratch again.

then you start thinking...so why do some people choose to leave... and you ask yourself why are you still here? of course you turn your head around and you see the people who are with the organisation for the longest time.. you then ask again; what made them stick it out for so long? well everyone has different needs and expecations and obviously their own personal agenda...

although it is is cliche when you say "all good things must come to an end"... it still struck me hard that, the people you have at work changes from time to time. more often than not, it changes faster than you had expected. but the nature of your job remains the same most of the time... and more often than not, doesn't change as much as you wish it could have! so should your career move be dependent on the kind of people you work with or the kind of work you have to do?

of course in between you have this catalyst called MONEY thrown in to make this whole equation work. but what if money is not a source of motivation in itself or worse, if the amount of money in this case is not even worth mentioning... money can only propel you to X amount of distance. where then can you find your self worth? how does this whole balance scale work for you now?

so what value are you adding to this organisation, in return; what value are you creating for yourself? if not personal development and career progression, then is it generating wealth and what if the answer is none of the above? if you realise...it brings us back to the original question of: why are you still here?

short sighted gains vs. long term interests. choose one.

yes a choice has to be made. i am so good at making rational decisions for just about everything and everyone... except when the decision involves me. i am one of the worse decision makers in this sense.

but at least for now, i have decided. i shall go to sleep, wake up and go back to my job.

trying to be ATAS

so what have i been up to?

well, my biggest purchase last weekend was a Fitness First membership! yup it cost me 150 bucks to join each month... i hope it is all worthwhile. so far i've been to the gym twice and joined 3 of their classes. haha i was at this body combat class (mix of taekwondo, karate, boxing etc)... i kept "armm chio-ing" when the instructor did his "kicks" and "moves"... but i still respect his energy and drive when instructing... even when the class is not "high" they will "zi high" which is very important. :)

and of course...i bought a new pair of REALLY cool Asics track shoe just so i wear it to the gym. must act ATAS wat. hee hee, so that's another 150 bucks gone...

oooh...and i got a cool pair of Adidas shades that cost 288 bucks! hmm but i didn't have to pay a single cent cos a friend of mine from work bought it for me and claimed under company account. muahaha...so happy! i used up my quota for the year already all thanks to my stupid root canal. (i get 700 bucks per year as dental and eye-care allowance). all thanks to him i get a pair of new shades..woo hoo... not that bad afterall! :)

valentine's day

so what's the difference between celebrating valentine's day when you are 25 yrs old and when you are 55? hmm...

today The Boss (25 yrs old) received a bouquet of 99 white roses from The Boyfriend. apparently last year her bouquet consisted of 199 white roses but she complained that it was too heavy to carry around... which is why this year The Boyfriend gave her 99 roses "ONLY".

tonight The Mum (55 yrs old) was complaining to The Dad about not being romantic enough to give her flowers for valentines day...

mum: 今天是情人节你连一束花都没有!
dad: 谁说的?... 我每个月都送你花 hor!

mum: 哪里有?!
dad: 那里没有?!

dad: 每个月我都准时送钱给你花!那个不是花 meh??!
mum: =_="

yes, dysfunctional parents breeds dysfunctional kids; ie: ME! and my stupid sis.

i am not your Champion Chen anymore...

was watching the re-screen of 谁与争锋 (the ch8 wushu show starring Terrence Cao and Vincent Ng) on TV tonight...

it was showing a scene on sparring competition between different martial artists and it sparked past memories of my own TKD competitions. i ransacked through the VCD box and found my competition videos. started playing them on my big ass 32" TV in my room... images of myself training in national squad... sights and sounds of local and overseas competition... all came back.

i miss training, sweating, muscle aches, injuries, wearing the national flag proudly on my left chest, butterflies in stomach while waiting for my next bout, the anticipation, excitement, adrenaline rush of scoring a point... most importantly... i miss feeling like a CHAMPION.

i miss the smug on my face which i always have after winning the gold medal... i miss the fact that i walk around with my nose in the air and how i was so haolian and people hate me for my guts but could do nothing with it... i miss people shouting my name cheering for me, giving me the thumbs up after i win a match beautifully.

i really miss TKD. i really miss competitions, i'm still hungry to win... what can i do to fill this emptiness in me?

if only i could turn back time... would i have done things differently?

pretty sad now actually... got a little emotional... cried abit while thinking...

i heaved a great sigh and stopped missing all that i miss when i saw that the time now is 315am. in less than 3 hours i will be back in The Office.. to my seat, my desk, my home for the next 10 hours or more. go to a job without excitement, a job where i swallow my pride and a job that mostly makes me feel like a LOSER and never a CHAMPION.

i shall go sleep now.

itching to leave my job??

it was a quiet Saturday morning where hardly anyone was in the office. i picked up The Straits Times papers and started reading it. all of a sudden a big shot ang moh HR lady appeared from nowhere.... she walked by my desk and saw that i had.................THE RECRUIT SECTION in my hands!!!!

walau.

and the reason why i didn't even realise her presence is because i was totally engrossed in whatever i was reading. ie: job postings

!!!

aiyoh...do i act like someone itching to leave her job??!

operating on a deficit

went to JB today with OHL who was my poly yr 1 lecturer! how cool is that. heh... hmm time flies man i've known her since i was 17 yrs old which means 9yrs ago! hah...

apart from all the "must-do's" in JB ie: cut + colour hair, massage, shopping, eat good food... i especially had a wonderful time chatting with her about anything and everything...better known as: gossipping.

talked about life, school, career, future, family... money!... she's definitely one of my bestest poly lecturer man. i can talk so much crap, create trouble for her to clean up, give her all my nonsense and she'll still love me for who i am. hah...

*dang*

was fun today, but spent so much money there too...i came back and realised...after paying this month's credit card bill i am officially operating on a deficit! arghh! let me ask The Dad for money :P i am such a loser daughter i know!

the day i nearly became Toothless Chen

my toothache was so bad that i had to leave work halfway to see a dentist. i was almost in tears when i turned around to ask The Big Boss for her permission to leave. i think she was quite stunned too when she saw my face...so she said "FWAH yes please leave like NOW!"

when i finally saw a dentist (i went to three clinics!) he was like god's send from heaven. but good times don't last very long. he was trying so hard to see what he could do to salvage my screwed up set of teeth by not extracting anything. he said: "to save you from becoming boh gay at such a young age...

1 filling needs to be replaced
2 root canal plus crowning has to be done
3 in grown wisdom tooth will have to be addressed (most likely surgery)
4 (or more) cavities needs to be filled at various places!"

he nearly refused treatment when he found out i have heart murmur! (he asked if i had any heart/cardiac problems like hole in heart/heart murmur =_=") i said to him: "i don't care even if my heart were to stop now just STOP MY PAIN!" sigh...yes i was that desperate. :(

today i only had the money (and the energy) to like do one root canal thingy... will have to come back for many more visits to fix everything! i called The Boss after dentist and the anesthetics have not worn off by then so i sounded damn LAO HONG on the phone. she couldn't stop laughing at me! BOO HOO HOO!

in conclusion: i walked out of the dentist with a swollen left face, $1,200 poorer and a two day MC...

(i shall fully utilize my MC by going for a facial and shopping!...both activities do not involve TALKING, CHEWING and any sort of MOUTH MOVEMENTS so it makes sense. i'm not cheating the company. LOL)

American Gangsta

just back from watching American Gangster with a bunch of friends from work. nice show... pretty thought provoking for me. let me share my thoughts on some of the memorable quotes from the movie.

"you're too loud, you're making too much noise. listen to me, the loudest one in the room is the weakest one in the room."
mind you, there is a lot of truth in the saying "empty vessels make the most noise". there's a difference between being loud and being prominent. i want to stand out at work, but not seen as someone who is all talk and no substance...

if you had watched the movie, Frank Lucas' downfall was brought upon when he broke his own rule of staying low profile. he wore this really expensive (and loud) fur jacket to the boxing game; that was when he caught the attention of the authorities. second takeaway point for this; if you fuck up the rule, the rule fucks you up.

"quitting while you're ahead is not the same as quitting."
knowing when to stop while you're at its best... in a way i was happy i quitted Taekwondo while i was at my peak. look, 7 times consecutive national champion? i don't think anyone in Singapore would ever exceed my achievements... i was sure i could achieve even more if i continued training, if not for the dumb old assholes who are power hungry and play sports with politics. fuck them all... i'm so glad they're paying for their mistakes now. ever since the SEA Games silver i won for my country... TKD is basically nothing but just a bunch of trash who never wins in the eyes of the government...

"judges, lawyers, cops, politicians. they stop bringing dope into this country, about a hundred thousand people are gonna be out of a job."
sometimes, ethics are not the best interest for everyone. always look at the bigger picture. so what if you've done something that seemed "inethical" at that moment in time? if you piece it together...it may just make the whole world work right for everyone. don't be a stick in the mud and be all uptight about moral standards and stuffs, totally cannot stand it. look at what's best for the interest of most people...

"ya are what ya are in this world. that's either one of two things: either you're somebody, or you ain't nobody."
i've always said i wanted to be somebody...well i guess i should have have been more specific... hahaha

Shut Up Move On

drama mama happened in office today... people crying, managers put in tight spot. no one likes bad news... but i really think people should shut up and move on...including MYSELF!

‘Shut Up’
- to stop what you’re doing
- take time out to reflect
- let go of baggage and beliefs that hinder your potential.

‘Move On’ means
- tomorrow can be different from today
- look for new possibilities.
- don’t just think about it, take action.

1) take responsibility for your own life. remove the i-am-victim t-shirt and stop lamenting about how others have failed you. no one owes u nothing!

2) take charge of your thinking. thinking affects emotions, which in turn affect actions, which always leads to results. you need to overcome ‘faulty thinking’ which brings about undesirable results.

3) understand how setbacks affect you and how to recover from them. we all need time to wallow a little... just be careful how long it lasts.

4) increase your understanding and awareness of other people’s world. this will help to bring about more successful relationships.

5) change comes through action not intention. carpé diem, seize the day!

6) create your own future rather than leave it to chance. forget the attitude que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be... how to make your time on this planet the best that it can be.

stop making resolutions that do not work

my 2007 new year's resolution was:

1. be 55 kgs by June, maintain weight until Dec'07
2. chew my food (at least 10 times) properly before i swallow it
3. do not add salt to my food before i even taste it

i achieved half of my first resolution. i hit under 55 kgs but it did not last past August! thanks to the BB pantry and the Peking ducks. do i chew my food properly before swallowing?? hmm..i guess i did? resolution number 3 was definitely a failure. yes.. i'm such a potential diabetic patient. anyone wants to invest in my life-term policy? there's a high chance of me servicing it. maturity date = short, rate of return = high. worthy investment.

so any resolutions for 2008?

1. think, think, talk...
2. read more books and news
3. stop being an undecisive bitch

bali = land of trash and mosquitoes

you can take the Singaporean out of Singapore, but not Singapore out of the Singaporean...

people say that Bintan...is just another extension of Singapore - and this is exactly why we (the mum, the dad and me) like Bintan more than Bali. hahaha.... oh well, to be fair, i guess it is just the wrong season to be in Bali. the strong winds are blowing all the trash from neighbouring islands (haha maybe from Singapore) into Bali and hence this sorry sight of Bali beach.even a sea turtle was washed up the beach. it was dead by the time i discovered it. so sad right. maybe it got suffocated by a plastic bag or choked on a straw or something.anyways the aim of this trip was to let parents from both sides meet, and sorta "discuss" about sis' and the BF's marriage next April.since the beach was not fantastic at all, we found other stuffs to do. young ones bake in the sun, allowing lethal UV rays come through their skin, expediting the ageing process...while the old folks stay in room for facial and massage in an attempt to regain their youth... yeah it is a paradoxical world we're living here.we took a day trip round the island, stopping at a few tourist attractions before heading to Kintamani.sis and the BFpaddy fields behind us.yup finally at Kintamani, the last time it erupted was 1994 (source of information: our driver cum guide) quite shiok man, sitting by the side of the cliff having lunch with the volcano just right in front of you. roadside fruit stalls, reminded me of cameron highlands. mum went crazy over the passion fruits she saw. we bought so much of that at Singapore price! i think the owner was laughing all the way to the bank.we went to this agricultural farm thingy and i was like trying to grind the coffee beans into powder. heh. the nenek sitting there was so cool. she was eating betel nuts and her lips were all RED. she said: "natural lipstick...cantik!"my best friend throughout the entire trip: Tiger Balm mosquito repellant.we were at the temple and witnessed a major celebration which only takes place every 6 months. so lucky! and according to Balinese calender, one month has 35 days, which means this ceremony is only once every 210 days!
i'll prolly give Bali another shot next time, go in the right season ie: april/june/july/august. this time with my mates and we can try to surf and white water raft and stuffs?
me and mum in similar t-shirt! so sweet hor? haha. you know they say if you wanna know how you will look like when you grow old, just look at the mum. not bad lah if i can look like that when i'm 55 yrs old!alright..better luck with Bali next time! Happy New Year 2008!

this is an entry about how i don't understand Facebook

some guy had to THROW A SHEEP at me, then drive past in his STREETRACE car just to WRITE ON MY WALL. when i did not respond to his ARE U COLOR BLIND? test, he POKED ME then sent VAMPIRES to BITE MY CHUMPS. finally i've decided i have to retaliate so i sent my SLAYERS and some PIRATES for my personal protection.

all of a sudden he invited me to take an IQ TEST followed by a BLIND DATE. it was not until now that he realised i am the MOST ELIGIBLE SINGLE in this world and asked if i WANNA DANCE? i told him we were only FLUFF FRIENDS and we did not score very high in terms of LIKENESS. he wouldn't go away so i gave him a BUTT KICKING experience. finally he buggered off so i lighted FIRECRACKERS to celebrate the end of this bizzare and unwelcomed ENTOURAGE.

sigh....i don't like Facebook. can all of you come back to Friendster please?!?!?!

btw i found a way to access blogger from BB! which means i can blog more often while at work! yay!!

ok the consoling thing is...i am going to Bali on 27th! lalalala... but don't know will be fun or not leh. it's like...me, dad, mum, sis, sis BF, sis BF's ang moh dad and ang moh mum. hmm...

somemore dunno will kena bali bombings or not. it's a real concern man. i mean i will be with 3 ang mohs...and most likely dining at all the ATAS ang mohs places... i guess i am better off hanging out at the local bars, and hook up with an Indo guy who can drive me around in his 25cc scooter.

should i go for my advanced diving course this time in Bali? i bloody should right?!?! ahahaha..more updates next time :P

earn your reputation

i collected my medical report on Saturday morning and the doctor said that my bad cholesterol level was 130! just one more point and i will exceed the limit. i am only 25 yrs old this year, thankss arr...

so i decided to do something healthy in an attempt to bring my cholesterol back to a healthy level. i went back to NTU in the afternoon to help conduct a training session for the NTU TKD camp. woah seh been ion years since i exercised. tried some kicks...buay pai leh...still got the pattern there. ahahaha...but then no stamina.

anyways was quite touched when i see that i still gain quite a bit of respect from the juniors. i guess it is really important to build and upkeep your reputation because it goes a long long way. respect is earned and not something you can demand. :) hopefully i can earn respect from others at work like how i earned the respect of many in TKD. :):)

limpei suay

today...

i woke up late for work, had to dash like a madwoman so that i arrive on time.

banged right into the glass door cos i was still very much asleep when i got to the office

breakfast provided in the office was the MUFFINS which i HATE

i heard something bad about me today

i spilled beef noodle sauce all over my pants exactly at the crouch area

i stepped right into a pool of MUDDY water in my WHITE brandnew Converse canvas shoes

what else can i say except....LIMPEI SUAY!

meet my new colleague

i have a new colleague at work and she is not well received by people in my department for various reasons. she likes to whine and she speaks at the top of her voice. she also has a habit of taking off her shoes at work and according to my other colleagues, they said they could smell an odor. well i shall not say whether it is smelly or not but let's just say it's an acquired taste.

other people's comments about her include:

"she sounds like a KPO aunty with blocked nose"

"honestly, she has to calm down, i'm really tempted to knock her out with a bottle of ketchup"

"i saw dried up pi sai at the side of her nose that day"

"i saw a wet pi sai at the side of her nose that day"

"i can smell her smelly feet from 10 foot away"

now we are playing this secret santa game within our department, whereby we are supposed to get a gift for a chosen person and he/she will have to guess who bought the gift for him/her. suggestions for her present include:

1) peppermint foot spray from bodyshop

2) complete set of foot scrub and foot lotion

3) horse tranquilizers

sigh, she so poor thing rite?
